Harry “Babe”  Conrad Wire

Huge Red Sox Fan -

Harry “Babe” Conrad Wire, 87, of Mechanicsburg, died at Carlisle Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, January 1, 2014.  He was born in Harrisburg, on Saturday, November 20, 1926, son of the late Harry Conrad Wire Sr. and Mary Katherine (Kautz) Elicker.  Harry was the widower of Catherine Renee (Walter) Wire whom he married on February 11, 1956 and who died on May 23, 2005.

Harry’s survivors include his loving children, Dennis Wire of Mechanicsburg, Renee K. Kepler and her husband Gregory of Harrisburg; his granddaughter, Nicole Wieger and her husband Nicholas of Thompsontown; and his great-grandchildren Evan and Kathryn Wieger; and three nephews and a niece.

Harry graduated from William Penn High School as part of the class of 1945. Harry was a US Army WWII Veteran having served in the South Pacific Theatre.  He retired from Mechanicsburg School District working in the maintenance department.  He was a past commander of the Mechanicsburg American Legion Post 109 from 1990-92 and a member of the Mechanicsburg VFW Post 6704 . Harry owned and operated a concession stand at Williams Grove Park and Speedway , and Selinsgrove and Penn National Speedways . Harry’s stand was well known for the delicious French fries.  Harry was a great father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a huge Boston Red Sox fan and also a fan of the Cleveland Browns.

All are welcome to join Harry’s family at his viewing on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, from 9:30 until time of service at 10:30 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Mary Medkeff-Rose as celebrant.  Burial will follow in Rolling Green Memorial Park in Camp Hill, where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard .

The family suggests memorial contributions to Boy Scouts of America: N.B.O. F. , 1 Baden Powell Lane, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050 or American Diabetes Association , Suite 103, 3544 North Progress Avenue, Harrisburg, PA  17110.
