A Real Card Shark -
Harvey C. Shellehamer, age 84, of Camp Hill , died peacefully at home and surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, August 2, 2014. Harvey was born on Friday, March 21, 1930 in Camp Hill to the late William C. Shellehamer and Elizabeth Irma Rebecca (Stitzel) Shellehamer. In addition to his parents, Harvey is preceded in death by his siblings: Lester Shellehamer, Fay Yocum, and Pauline Clark.
Harvey’s survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Norma D. (Hammaker) Shellehamer; his children: Diana L. Shellehamer of Lemoyne, Denise L. Shellehamer of Lemoyne, Douglas L. Shellehamer and his partner, Natalie Harchuska, of Lebanon; his grandchildren: Tiffany and Dustin Shellehamer; and his siblings: Harold Shellehamer and his wife, Marti, of New Hampshire, Walter Shellehamer and his wife, Dorothy, of Enola, and Kay Shellehamer of Mechanicsburg.
Harvey graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1949. He retired in 1995 from Morgan Distribution, Inc. in Mechanicsburg. Harvey was a member of Shiremanstown United Methodist Church for more than 75 years. He was a huge Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan who enjoyed baseball and football so much that he coached and umpired for years with Lower Allen Baseball and Midget Football. Hunting and fishing, especially for trout, were pastimes that Harvey enjoyed. His special joy was playing cards and he was known to be a real card shark. Harvey was born on the farm that his family worked and he was always proud of his family’s farming roots. Always a practical joker, Harvey loved to make others laugh and he enjoyed sharing a laugh with them. His laughter and good heart will be remembered forever.
All are welcome to join Harvey’s family at his viewing on Thursday, August 7, 2014, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. and at his funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at Shiremanstown United Methodist Church , 125 East Main Street, Shiremanstown, PA 17011; with Pastor Logan Garth Swanger officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Slate Hill Cemetery in Camp Hill. Honored to be pallbearers are: Joseph Seidel, Douglas Shellehamer, David Crossley, Richard Meck, Donald Meck, and Linwood Nester. Harvey’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at his church following the burial.
