Helen Emma (Thumm) Castanos, 89, of New Cumberland , died at home and surrounded by her loving family on Monday, November 26, 2012. She was born in Philadelphia, on Sunday, October 28, 1923 daughter of the late Karl Thumm and Freida (Whitman) Thumm. Helen was the widow of Richard M. Castanos to whom she was married for 32 years.
Helen was a member St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg. She was a feisty, caring and loving woman who enjoyed spending time with her family. Helen especially loved playing with her great-granddaughter. She was very athletic, participated in gymnastics, ballet and was the captain of her track team in high school. Helen also loved to sing, was artistic and loved to go out to eat with her family.
Helen’s survivors include her loving children, Joseph C. Castanos and his wife Patricia of New Cumberland, Diane A. Atticks and her husband James of New Cumberland, Richard M. Castanos, Jr., of Cocoa Beach, FL; grandchildren, Kelly Castanos, Alissa Atticks, Genna Atticks, Kiehra Atticks; great-granddaughter, Jaylyn Atticks; and nieces and nephews. Among those preceding in death are her sister, Marie Riedl; and granddaughter, Diane Helen Atticks.
All are welcome to join Helen’s family at her viewing on Thursday, November 29, 2012, from 12:30 until time of service at 1:30 at St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church , 117 West Keller Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Pastor Randall J. Marburger officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Rolling Green Memorial Park in Camp Hill
