Helen Beatrice (Hertzler) Redmond

Helen Beatrice (Hertzler) Redmond, age 94, of Carlisle, and formerly of Mechanicsburg and Sunbury, passed away peacefully while being comforted by her family on Thursday, September 28, 2017. Helen was born on Wednesday, April 25, 1923 in Port Royal to the late Harvey J. Hertzler and Mabel M. (Kauffman) Hertzler. Helen was the widow of Earl W. Redmond, whom she married in 1941, and who died in 1996. In addition to her parents and husband, Helen is preceded in death by her brother, James Hertzler; and her two sisters: Martha Sheaffer and Mary Ellen Zerbe.
Helen’s survivors include her two children: Diane A. Diehl and her companion, Roger Spitz, of Carlisle, Earl L. Redmond and his wife, Sondra, of Carlisle; her four grandchildren: Robert “Bob” Redmond of Carlisle, Dawna Mundis and her husband, Dale, of Carlisle, Douglas Shearer of Carlisle, Deedra Keck of Carlisle; her six great-grandchildren; her step-great grandson; her seven great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Helen attended Liverpool High School. She was a long-time member of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg. Helen liked to cook and her family always looked forward to indulging in her homemade macaroni and cheese. She enjoyed going on trips with her husband and neighbors, some of whom she lived near in the same neighborhood for over fifty years. Helen loved cardinals and eagles for their beauty. She liked to adorn her home with all different types of decorations that showed the birds’ elegance. Helen was a very patriotic woman who flew the American flag each day while paying close attention to its condition. Her favorite thing to do was tending to her flower garden, which she took such loving care of. Helen will be remembered for her smile and charismatic spirit; the two characteristics that she shared with everyone she encountered.
All are welcome to join Helen’s family at her viewing on Monday, October 2, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until time of casket closing at 10:45 a.m. with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Eric Anderson officiating. Helen’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at The Stage & Studio Café, next door to the funeral home, following the service. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Northumberland Memorial Park in Sunbury.
