In his private life, Doc took great joy in all things outdoors and the wonder of nature. His quest for knowledge and understanding was with him until his final days. Spending as much time with family as possible was a high priority in his life. The example he set in the unassuming, selfless devotion to his aging sisters, especially Margaret who was blind, provided a role model for the entire family. Doc was an extremely skilled amateur woodworker, who accepted nothing less than perfection on the projects that left his home workshop, many of which are now heirlooms for the family to cherish.
