Howard “Doug” Douglas Kennedy, Sr., age 79, of Enola, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023. Doug was born on Saturday, June 17, 1944, in Mechanicsburg to the late Francis Joseph Kennedy and Mary Rebecca (Way) Kennedy. Doug was the widower of Diane Louise (Wisegarver) Kennedy, whom he married on August 8, 1964, and who died on October 23, 2018. In addition to his parents and wife, Doug is preceded in death by his four siblings: Frances Joseph Kennedy, Jr., Michael Kennedy, Eileen Crist and Patricia Curp.
Doug’s survivors include his three children: Rebecca “Becky” Noss of Enola, Howard “Doug” Douglas Kennedy, Jr. and wife, Dana, of Secane, Jennifer Diane Kennedy and husband, Kevin Gilmore, of Harrisburg; his two special nieces: Tiesha Worley, Jamie Brooks; his thirteen grandchildren: Curtis Malone, Ryan Noss and wife, Carolyn, Brandon Cox and wife, Heather, Jordan Cox, Casey Fowler and husband, Austin, Laura Tasker and husband, Nathan, Bailey Gilmore, Leah Smith and husband, Adam, Nicholas Gilmore and girlfriend, Abby, Vienna Nicolosi, Gianna Duden, Ashlyn Noss and Andrew Kennedy; his nine great-grandchildren: Liam Fowler, Piper Noss, Dixie Malone, Everly Tasker, Orion Malone, Asher Noss, Aubrey Fowler, Verity Tasker and Henley Cox; his three sisters: Maureen Gunther of Marathon, FL, Kathleen Warner of Mechanicsburg, Alberta Luther of Enola and several nieces and nephews.
Doug graduated from East Pennsboro High School as part of the class of 1963 and attended Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC). He retired from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board in 2004 working as a manager. Doug was a veteran who proudly served in the United States Navy then retired from the Pennsylvania National Guard. Doug attended church at Our Lady of Lourdes in Enola and was a member of the Enola Legion Post 751, Marysville Sportsman’s Club and the Coffee Clatch. He was a huge New York Yankees fan. Doug was known for his jokes, his sass and sarcasm, but most of all his jovial laughs and big greeting smiles. Doug adored his wife with all his heart. After her death he carried her in his heart as he branched out on adventures and activities. He was a hard-working man who loved his family and was known as “Pop” to many.
All are welcome to join Doug’s family at Gathering of Family and Friends on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, from 10:30 a.m. until time of Service at 11:45 a.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend George A. Spangler officiating. Burial will follow immediately in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville. Honored to be pallbearers are: Brandon Cox, Jordan Cox, Nick Gilmore, Ryan Noss, Adam Smith, and Nathan Tasker. Doug’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the American Legion Post 751, 295 West Shady Lane, Enola, PA 17025.
