H. “Sam” Samuel Chester
H. “Sam” Samuel Chester, 83, of Mechanicsburg , formerly of Lewistown , passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Bethany Village. He was born on Thursday, February 19, 1931 in Lewistown to the late John H. Chester and Margaret (McClellan) Chester. In addition to his parents, Sam is preceded in death by his brother, John H. Chester.
Sam’s survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Ruth G. (Strickling) Chester; his daughters, Margaret E. Chester of Mechanicsburg and Kathryn A. Chester of Camp Hill; his sister-in-law, Edna S. Chester of Bellville; his cousins, Betty J. Sizer of Camp Hill and Elizabeth M. McClellan of Stroudsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Sam was employed by the Standard Steel Corporation of Burnham for nearly 40 years prior to retirement. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving as a corporal in the Army Signaling Corps . He was a member of Lewistown Masonic Lodge #203 and was a past worthy patron of Lewistown Chapter #283 of the Order of the Eastern Star . He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lewistown and an associate member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Camp Hill. His hobbies included antiques, gardening, reading, playing his beloved organ, singing in his churches’ choirs, and his many grand dogs. Sam will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
All are welcome to join Sam’s family at any of his gatherings of family and friends and memorial services. A reception will immediately follow each service.
