Hubert “Tony” Anthony Corbé, Jr.
A Wonderful Laugh -
Hubert “Tony” Anthony Corbé, Jr., age 95, of Carlisle, and formerly of Shiremanstown, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022. Tony was born on Saturday, June 19, 1926, in Philadelphia to the late Hubert Anthony Corbé, Sr. and Grace (Wieland) Corbé. Tony was the widower of Marie Louise (Bower) Corbé, whom he married on October 8, 1949, and who died on November 12, 2017.
Tony’s survivors include his three daughters: Christine “Chris” Corbé Carelli and her husband, Frank, of Mechanicsburg; Nancy Roberta Knecht and her husband, Ray, of York Haven; Jean Anita Fowler and her husband, Robert “Bob”, of Kingwood, TX; his eight grandchildren; his seven great-grandchildren; his two siblings: Robert “Bob” Paul Corbé of Young Harris, GA and Grace Hilda Stoner of Mechanicsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Tony graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1944 and attended Yale and Mt. St. Mary’s University, during his enlistment in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Wessels Used Cars in Dillsburg, working as a car salesman. Tony had an entrepreneurial spirit and held many jobs during his career. He owned and operated Corbé Sporting Supply; Tasty Freeze in Lemoyne and Mechanicsburg; the Gulf Station in Mechanicsburg; and drove a Gulf Oil delivery truck. Tony also drove school bus for the Cumberland Valley School District, worked at O’Brien’s Ski Shop, and the Penn National Race Course. Currently, Tony was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in New Kingston, and was formerly a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Shiremanstown, where he served as council member, Sunday school teacher and member of the choir. Tony also belonged to the Camp Hill Kite Club. Tony was good with his hands and loved to make things. He spent many hours in his workshop framing and matting pictures and photos, caning chairs and refinishing furniture. He even built an ice skating rink in his backyard for his girls and other neighborhood children to enjoy. He enjoyed listening to upbeat music; especially rag time, big band, Dixieland jazz, and swing. Tony and Marie often visited lighthouses in Boston, New Jersey, Delaware and the Carolinas. Tall ships and lighthouses held a special allure for Tony. His family was so important to him and he cherished the time spent with his wife and daughters. He also made sure to visit his family in Millersburg. Tony’s family will remember his wonderful laugh and the jovial moments that he spent “kidding around”. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
