Ila Mae (Riner) Maynor

The Family Historian -

Ila Mae (Riner) Maynor, age 88, of Hico, WV, was reunited with her beloved husband on Thursday, July 18, 2019.  Ila was born on Monday, April 20, 1931 in Gatewood, WV to the late Lud Carlton Riner and Russie Lynn (Fox) Riner.  Ila was the widow of Robert “Bob” Waldo Maynor, whom she married on August 21, 1950, and who died on May 18, 2009.  In addition to her parents and husband, Ila is preceded in death by her four brothers: Glendon Riner, Aubrey Riner, Paul Riner, Carl Riner; and her four sisters: Clara Dooley, Jessie Wiley, Griselda Murphy, and Audrey Ray.

Ila’s survivors include her four daughters: Susan “Susie” Riner Maynor-Leech and her husband, Peter D., of Port Marion, Debra “Debbie” Ann Gould of Lawrenceburg, IN, Teresa Jane Cogar of Hico, WV, Sherrie Mae Koon and her husband, Patrick E., of Mechanicsburg; her eight grandchildren: Garth M. Leech and his wife, Jessica, and their son, Jackson, Craig M. Leech and his wife, Courtney, and their two children: Conner and Callie, Cheri Boardley and her husband, Michael, and their three children: Kayla, Austin, and Jocelyn, Dirk Maynor and his daughter, Randa, Jennifer Bailey and her husband, Robert, and their daughter, Marissa, Vanessa Garrett and her husband, Charlie, and their two children: Rachel and William, Aimee Koon and her daughter, Abby, Scott A. Koon; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved canine companion, Miss Lynn.

Ila graduated from Fayetteville County High School as a part of the class of 1949.  She labored on the family’s dairy farm, the largest in southern West Virginia, until beginning Beckley College in Beckley, WV.  Ila met her husband, Bob, during her studies and the two soon eloped to Covington, VA before beginning their life of love together.  The couple traveled to various states as a part of Bob’s job until returning to West Virginia in the 60’s where Ila earned her LPN.  She worked as a nurse for over 40 years in various locations such as, hospitals, doctor’s offices, home healthcare, and emergency rooms.  Ila was a lifelong member of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren in Fayetteville, WV, which sat on land that was donated by her father.  She loved being a part of the church and was active in almost all ministries within the organization.   Ila was a past member of Beta Sigma Phi, National Business Women’s Association, West Virginia LPN Association, and the Garden Club.

She enjoyed traveling with and to see her siblings, who often doted on and spoiled her.  Ila was very family oriented and she made great efforts to keep the family connected, which earned her the honor of becoming the family historian.  She was a great cook and hard worker who was always involved in the community and her church.  Ila was an extremely generous woman that utilized her love of shopping to find the perfect gifts to give.  She loved the holidays and watching sports, especially West Virginia University.  Her family and friends would refer to her as a sports fanatic because she never missed a Mountaineers basketball or football game and she knew every stat.

All are welcome to join Ila’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Saturday, July 27, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, 6952 Gatewood Road, Fayetteville, WV 25840; with Pastor Kenny Hayes officiating.  Ila’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at her church immediately following the service.  Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens in Victor, WV.
