Iva Jeannette (Wells) Metzgar

Iva Jeannette (Wells) Metzgar, age 82, of Mechanicsburg, passed away at home and surrounded by her loving family on Monday, February 1, 2016.  Iva was born on Tuesday, November 21, 1933, in Wilmington, NC to the late Edwin F. Wells and Jeannette (Brown) Wells.  In addition to her parents, Iva is preceded in death by her grandson, Brandon Sultzaberger.

Iva’s survivors include her five children: Constance “Connie” L. Dennis and her husband, Wesley, of Mechanicsburg, Barbara “Barb” (Houck) Crowell of Mechanicsburg, Karen A. Dietz of Shermans Dale, Ronald “Ron” E. Houck, Jr. and his wife, Kelly, of Mechanicsburg, Lisa Houck of Mechanicsburg; her ten grandchildren; her ten great-grandchildren; her three siblings: David M. Wells and his wife, Beth, of Alexandria, VA, Sandra W. Floyd of Nicholasville, KY, Betty W. Robuck and her husband, Lloyd, of Wilmington, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

Iva graduated from New Hanover High School in Wilmington, NC as part of the class of 1952.  She retired from Capitol Products – Ethyl Corp in Mechanicsburg, PA after 20 years of service working as an account executive.  In her earlier years, Iva loved to dance and party with best friends at Petty Officers’ Mess, Mechanicsburg Navy Depot. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and reading, especially historical romance novels. Iva was quite the jokester and always had those around her laughing.  You always knew where you stood with Iva.  She was a very strong lady; independent in nature and outspoken, and those who knew her loved her for being herself.  Iva’s family will always remember her love for vacation trips to Long Beach, NC and how much they loved and enjoyed them with her.

All are welcome to join Iva’s family at her viewing on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George Spangler officiating.  Burial will follow in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill.  Iva’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at The Mechanicsburg Club, 333 Heinz Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 following the burial.  Honored to be pallbearers are: Caz Alvarez, Ryan Sultzaberger, Adam Dietz, Tim Engel, Jr., Blair Houck, and Mitchell Houck.
