Beloved Husband & Father -

Ivan Richard “Dick” Martin, age 84, of Mechanicsburg, PA, and formerly of Doylestown, PA, went home to be with the Lord while being comforted by the singing of hymns by his wife and daughter on Friday, November 4, 2016.  Dick was born on Wednesday, June 8, 1932 in New Holland, PA, to the late Ivan Hoover Martin and Anna Mae (Witmer) Martin.

Dick’s survivors include his loving wife of almost 61 years, Ethel Elizabeth (Harris) Martin; his daughter, Priscilla Faye Biller and her husband, Gerald, of Mechanicsburg; his beloved step grandchildren and great grandchildren; his three siblings: Joyce Lehman and her husband, Ernie, of Lancaster, Anthony Martin and his wife, Miriam, of Pittsburgh, Rev. Dr. Lynn Martin and his wife, Lori, of Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

Dick graduated from Donegal High School as part of the class of 1950 and from Bob Jones University in 1957 with a Master of Arts degree in Christian Education and was ordained through Gospel Fellowship.  He pastored a church in Burley, WA for two years before teaching at South Kitsap High School.  He taught English for over 30 years before retiring from Holicong Junior High School in the Central Bucks School District in Doylestown, PA.  Dick truly loved being a teacher and he even spent a year teaching in the Philippines.  He was an active member at West Shore Evangelical Free Church in Mechanicsburg.

Dick loved living in Sebring, FL during his retirement where he spent most of his 13 years there playing golf.  He loved hiking so much that he completed a significant portion of the Appalachian Trail with his high school friend, Dick Humbert.  He also enjoyed fishing, baseball, especially the Boston Red Sox, and southern gospel music, particularly Bill Gaither.  He also loved dogs, his family, and getting together with special friends.  He will be greatly missed.

All are welcome to join Dick’s family at his memorial service on Saturday, November 19, 2016 starting at 1:00 p.m. at West Shore Evangelical Free Church, 1345 Williams Grove Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Ken Thompson and Reverend Dr. Brand W. Eaton officiating.  Dick’s family invites everyone to join them for a reception and a greeting of family and friends at his church immediately following the memorial service.  Cremation was and scattering will be private and at the convenience of the family.
