Ivan Leroy Sarver
Proud WWII Navy Veteran
Ivan Leroy Sarver, 85, of Plainfield and formerly of Mechanicsburg died Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Church of God Home in Carlisle. He was born on Friday, June 26, 1925 in Liverpool the son of the late Charles and Nora (Dillman) Sarver. He married his sweetheart, Betty Mildred Heimbaugh, on April 12, 1947.
Ivan was an avid hunter of deer and fisherman of trout who loved taking his grandchildren fishing. He always made time and thoroughly enjoyed visiting with his family and friends, especially his sisters. He was a very loving father and grandfather. He was an active member of the Mechanicsburg Men’s Club and the Mechanicsburg Business Men’s League who “occasionally enjoyed a beer.” He was also a member of various VFWs, American Legions, Moose Lodges and Eagles Clubs. He worked for and retired from the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot. Ivan was a proud WWII Navy Veteran who served in the South Pacific. His ship island-hopped and he served aboard LST 446 and LST 240.
Ivan is survived by his loving wife of 64 years: Betty Mildred (Heimbaugh) Sarver; one daughter: Cheryl Ann Nickel and her husband Paul of Plainfield; one son: Dennis L. Sarver of Shermansdale; two sisters: Pearl Scott of Newport, Blanche Sarver of Liverpool; three grandchildren: Thomas, Beverly, Jennifer; one great grandchild: Zandra and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
All are welcome to join Ivan’s family at his viewing on Saturday from 9:00 until time of service at 10:00 with a Masonic Service at 9:30 at

. Reverend Donald E. Potter will officiate and burial will immediately follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard.
