Loving Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, & Great Great-Grandfather -
Jack Elwood Brinkley, Sr., age 86, of Harrisburg, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 1, 2017. Jack was born on Sunday, January 26, 1930 in Lemoyne to the late Norman Augusta Brinkley and Ruth Vesta (Cochlin) Brinkley. In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by his brother, Leroy Brinkley; and his former spouse, Ileta May (Painter) Brinkley Critzer.
Jack’s survivors include his two children: Dottie Ann Brinkley of Harrisburg, Jack E. Blackwell and his wife, Cindy, of Waynesboro, VA; his eight grandchildren: Amanda Wisman, Kellie Wisman, Carolyn Maldonado and her husband, Edwin Maldonado, Jr., Edward Wisman, Jr., Devon Blackwell, Robbie Blackwell, James Blackwell, Heather Blackwell; his 17 great-grandchildren; his great great-grandson; and his two great friends: Pam Martz and Dale.
Jack served in the United States Navy and was a proud veteran. He retired from the Flying J Truck Stop after many years of service working as a janitor. He loved to play card games especially with his family; his favorite game was 500 Rummy. Jack also enjoyed playing Bingo and games on the computer. He found great joy in going to the computer room and playing Solitaire. Jack liked to watch old movies and his favorite actor, John Wayne. He was fond of jazz and old country music. Most importantly, Jack held his family close to his heart and cherished the time he had with them and the memories they created together.
All are welcome to join Jack’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Friday, January 13, 2017, from 12:45 p.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Full military honors will follow the service presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. Jack’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at New Love In Christ Church, 6003 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17112, following the service. Cremation was private.
