Nice, Quiet, Generous Man -

Jacob Robert Stauffer, age 90, of Mechanicsburg , died at Messiah Lifeways on Tuesday, September 30, 2014.  Jacob was born on Tuesday, July 8, 1924 in Mechanicsburg to the late Jacob R. Stauffer and Mary T. (Hosler) Stauffer.  Jacob was the widower of Anamae Celara (Kauderman) Stauffer, whom he married on February 12, 1949, and who died on December 6, 2012.  In addition to his parents and wife, Jacob is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Virginia “Ginny” Miller.

Jacob’s survivors include his children:  Laurie D. Stauffer of Mechanicsburg and Jay R. Stauffer of New Cumberland; and one niece and nephew.

Jacob graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1942, and after attending Bloomsburg State Teachers College , he went on to graduate from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in commerce and finance in 1947.  He was a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the U.S. Navy and served in World War II.  Jacob earned his degree at Dickinson School of Law and practiced law for over 50 years; owning his own firm, the Law Offices of J.R. Stauffer and John Eakin on Market Square in Mechanicsburg.  He was a member of Trindle Spring Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg.  Jacob belonged to the American Legion Post #109, VFW Post #7415 in New Cumberland, and the Eureka Lodge No. 302 F & AM , where he was a member for over 50 years.  He was a lifetime member of both Penn State’s Smeal College of Business and the Mechanicsburg Club .  Jacob was an avid golfer and Penn State fan who enjoyed reading in his leisure time.  He is remembered fondly by his family as a nice, quiet man and generous philanthropist.

Cremation and services will be private and at the family’s convenience.

The family suggests memorial contributions to ASPCA, P.O. Box 96929, Washington, D.C. 20090-6929.
