James “Jimmy” Earnest Davis, Sr.
A Man of His Word -
James “Jimmy” Earnest Davis, Sr., age 63, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Ormond Beach, FL, passed away in the privacy of his home on Wednesday, August 15, 2018. Jimmy was born on Saturday, November 6, 1954 in Baumholder, Germany to the late Coley Davis, Jr. and Peggy Forcella (Cook) Davis.
James’s survivors include his wife of 30 years, Debra “Deb” Sue (Hockley) Davis; his three sons: James E. Davis, Jr. and his wife, Ronica, of Placida, FL, Jody G. Davis of Englewood, FL, Charles “Charlie” E. Hockley and his wife, Amanda, of Carlisle; his daughter, Velva “Bridgette” Hockley and her husband, Chris Keefer, of Harrisburg; his eight grandchildren: Jesse, Morgan, Trevor, Caleb, Emily, Bryana, Natalia, Kayla; his sister, Jacquelyn “Jackie” Wess and her husband, Wayne, of Dill City, OK; and one of his many nieces and nephews, Daneka.
James graduated from Duncan High School in Oklahoma as part of the class of 1974 and then proudly served in the United States Army. He worked for Carter’s for 10 years and then retired from Purina Mills in Camp Hill, after 22 valuable years of service working as a forklift operator and truck driver. James was an active member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #1299 where he served as treasurer and longtime member of the Blue Moon Cruisers and Cumberland Valley Classics Car Club. He was also the Senior Vice Commander of the Sons of the American Legion Post 101 in Carlisle. James will always be remembered for his love of motorcycles and cars, the compassion and love that he showed his grandkids, and his outspoken opinion. He was a man of few words; however, James always kept his word.
All are welcome to join James’s family at his viewing on Thursday, August 23, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Friday, August 24, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. and a committal ceremony with military honors to follow, all at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George Spangler officiating. Honored to be pallbearers are: James E. Davis, Jr., Jesse Davis, Jody G. Davis, Caleb Hockley, Charles Hockley, Christopher Hockley, Trevor Hockley, and George VanAsdalan. Anyone who know James would know that he wouldn’t want anybody to attend in “fancy clothes”. In keeping with his wish, that family asks that everyone come dressed casual to help celebrate his life and what he cherished most – his family.
