James “Jake” Edward Snavely, Sr.

James “Jake” Edward Snavely, Sr., age 83, of Camp Hill , and formerly of Lemoyne and Enola , died at Golden Living West Shore on Thursday, January 15, 2015.  Jake was born on Sunday, August 9, 1931 in Enola to the late John Chester Snavely and Mildred (Billets) Snavely.  Jake was the widower of Bonnie (Jenkins) Snavely and Christine Hope (Mitchell) Snavely, whom he married on December 28, 1966, and who died on December 13, 1993.  In addition to his parents and two wives, Jake is preceded in death by his four siblings: Ruth Leach, John Snavely, Jr., Alvin Snavely, and Lewis “Pete” Snavley.

Jake’s survivors include his loving partner of over 15 years, Norma Orris Scrignoli; his son, James Edward Snavely, Jr. and his wife, Lynn, of Mechanicsburg; his five daughters: Cathy Welker, Nancy Anderson, Brenda Snavely, Lisa Baker, Cathy Scott; and his sister, Mildred “Millie” (Snavely) Miller.

Jake served for four years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he was wounded in action.  He retired in 1996 from Osterlund, now Diamond Reo Trucks , located outside of Hershey; and prior to that he worked for Baskin’s Tire in Harrisburg.  Jake was a hard-working man who could boast that he never took a sick day.  Among Jake’s earliest memories was witnessing the explosion of the Hindenberg in New Jersey.  In fact, his great uncle was one of the designers of the doomed airship.  Jake was a loving, devoted, and affectionate husband and a good, kind, and compassionate man.  He was a simple guy who loved the outdoors; especially hunting, and good westerns; which did not include any movie featuring John Wayne.

Jake’s family will be remembering his life privately.  Scattering of his cremated remains will be at the family’s convenience.  Cremation was private.

The family suggests memorial contributions to American Heart Association , 1019 Mumma Road, Wormleysburg, PA 17043.
