James “Jim” Roy Beistline, 72, of Mechanicsburg , died at Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice Residence on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, after a long battle with diabetes. He was born in Steelton/Oberlin, on Saturday, May 18, 1940, son of the late William W. Beistline and Agnes S. (Shaw) Beistline. Jim was the husband of Barbara “Barb” Suzanne (Yost) Beistline whom he married on August 16, 1962.
Jim graduated from Harrisburg Catholic High School as part of the class of 1957. He retired from Edwin L. Heim Electrical Contractors in Harrisburg, after more than 43 years of service working as an electrician. Jim was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Mechanicsburg. He was a member of the Son’s of the American Legion , the William Grove Fire Company of Monroe Township where he served as Fire Chief and Fire Marshall for 10 years, the Washington Fire Company No. 1 , the Mechanicsburg Business Men’s League , a charter member of the Enola Sportsman’s Club , a life member of the Mechanicsburg Club , a 53 year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) .
Jim was one of the most likeable people you could meet and he was a giver. He loved his family with all his heart. Jim was a hard worker and he enjoyed doing fundraising for the organizations of which he was a member. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, his tractor, sports of all kinds especially the Phillies and the Mechanicsburg Sandlot Baseball Team and George Jones.
Jim’s survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Barbara “Barb” Suzanne (Yost) Beistline; his two daughters, Michele L. Motter and her husband Andrew of Mechanicsburg, Jamie R. Mitchell and her husband Todd of Mechanicsburg; his three grandchildren, Ryan M. Taylor and his fiancé Tiffany Hoffman and their children Dylan and Payton all of Mechanicsburg, Paige and Natalie Mitchell both of Mechanicsburg; his step-mother, Marlene Beistline of Harrisburg; his five sisters, Barbara Sultzaberger of Middletown, Laura Stover of Royersford, Elizabeth Albert of Oberlin, Marlene Radosevic of Harrisburg, Christine Jackson of Bainbridge; and several nieces and nephews. Among those preceding Jim in death are his brothers, William and Howard Beistline and his sister Violet Taschner.
All are welcome to join Jim’s family at his visitation on Friday, November 30, 2012, from 9:00 until time of service at 11:00 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Reverend John J. Ward-Diorio officiating. Cremation was private. Burial will immediately follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery . Honored to be urn bearers are Andrew Motter and Todd Mitchell. Jim’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the American Legion , 224 West Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, following the interment.
