James “Jim” Reed Lewis, Jr., age 80, of Enola, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022.  Jim was born on Tuesday, January 13, 1942, in Carnegie to the late James Reed Lewis, Sr. and Florence Almeda (Liggins) Lewis.  In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his two sisters: Maybelle Lewis-Johnson and Velma Jean Lewis-Philpot.

Jim’s survivors include his wife of 41 years, Denise Eileen (Boose) Lewis; his three sons: James “Jay” Reed Lewis, III and wife, Paula, of Harrisburg, Daniel “Dan” Francis Lewis and wife, Tiffany, of Mechanicsburg, Erik Michael Lewis and wife, Denielle, of Lemoyne; his daughter, Nicole Rachele Lewis of New Cumberland; his seven grandchildren: Lilly, Evalyn, Rowen, Lochlan, Miles, Sloane and Jude; his two sisters: Florence “Fran” Frances Lewis of Pittsburgh and Geraldine Lewis-Harris of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Jim was born and raised in Carnegie, PA, the only son sandwiched between four sisters.  After graduation, he enlisted in the Army and served his time stationed in Germany.  After his discharge, he worked in the steel mills in Pittsburgh and then relocated to the Harrisburg area.  Jim and Denise moved to Mechanicsburg in 1985 and lived there until a fire took their home in 2020.  Jim retired from Hempt Brothers as a Large Equipment Mechanic in 2013.   He was a hard worker who never missed a day of work.  He had a passion for cowboy boots (much to the perplexion of his family) and had a massive sweet tooth; his favorite being York Peppermint Patties.  But he didn’t love anything as much as he loved his children.  He not only made sure he was in attendance for every football, softball, baseball, track meet, martial arts test or speech competition, but he was a regular during practices as well.  He built a playground in the backyard for all of the neighborhood kids to enjoy.  He will be greatly missed by his family.  "Our death is not an end if we can live on in our children and the younger generation.  For they are us; our bodies are only wilted leaves on the tree of life." -Albert Einstein.

Jim’s family will be remembering his life privately.  Cremation was private.

Jim’s family has entrusted his care to Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421.  Read Jim’s full obituary, offer condolences and sympathy, share stories and memories, upload photographs and videos, light a candle and sign his official guest book by visiting Buhrig.com.
