James “Jim” Henry Walmer

James “Jim” Henry Walmer, 95, of Mechanicsburg died at the Oaks Skilled Care Center at Bethany Village on Tuesday, April 3, 2012. He was born in Highspire on Wednesday, May 3, 1916, son of the late John Henry and Ida Belle (Keller) Walmer. Jim was the husband of Jean Elizabeth (Ohmit) Walmer who he married on November 9, 1946.

Jim graduated from Highspire High School as part of the class of 1936. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Steelton since 1946. During World War II, Jim was a Senior Airplane Mechanic at Olmstead Air Force Base in Middletown where he proudly served. Jim retired as a State Farm Agent on July 31, 1982, after 30 years of service.

Jim was a 32 nd degree Mason, a 63 year Master Mason and a Warrant Member of Steelton - Swatara (Masonic) Lodge #775 where he served as both Chaplain and Treasurer, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Harrisburg, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Harrisburg Forest #43, Shriners International , The Capital Area Scottish Rite Club of Harrisburg, Highspire Historical Society , and was a former member and past President of the Cloverly Heights Lions Club in Harrisburg and the a former member and two time past President of the Highspire Lions Club .

Jim’s survivors include his loving wife of 65 years: Jean Elizabeth (Ohmit) Walmer; his son: James O. Walmer and his wife Martha of Harrisburg; his daughter: Rev. Dr. Verna Call and her husband Thomas of Renfrew; three grandchildren: Brian Walmer, David Call, Brenda McGuire; and six great grandchildren: Anthony, Albert, William, Kaitlyn, Riley and Isaia.  Among those preceding Jim in death are his brother: Merl Keller Walmer.

All are welcome to join Jim’s family at his viewing on Saturday, April 7, 2012, from 9:30 to 10:30 with a Masonic Service at 9:45 and a funeral service at 10:30 all to be held at the Oaks Skilled Care Community Room at Bethany Village , 5225 Wilson Lane, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17055, with Rev. Dr. Verna Call and Rev. Brand W. Eaton officiating.

Burial will immediately follow in Churchville Cemetery , Steelton. Honored to be pallbearers are: James O. Walmer, Thomas Call, David Call and Scott McGuire.
