James “Pap” Lester Miller, Jr.

Great Father and Hard Worker -

James “Pap” Lester Miller, age 88, of Mechanicsburg , died peacefully and surrounded by his loving family at Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice Residence on Wednesday, October 28, 2015.  Jim was born on Tuesday, March 1, 1927, in Wormleysburg, PA to the late James Lester Miller, Sr. and Alda (Myers) Miller.  In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his brother, Herbert Miller.

Jim’s survivors include his loving wife of 71 years, Geraldine Catherine (Jones) Miller; his two children: Jack Miller and his wife, Peggy of Shermans Dale, Carol Hummer and her husband, George, of Mechanicsburg; his seven grandchildren: Ronald Barrick, David Barrick, Jack Miller, Jr., Melinda LeBlanc, Jim Miller, Andy Hummer, Ashley Hummer; his 15 great-grandchildren: Cody, Cole, Wyatt, Ronnie, Amanda, Nicole, Dakota, Brandon, Ricky, Krissy, Joey, Ross, Bree, Chey, Halie, Logan; his five great-great-grandchildren: Avian, Bella, A.J., Jayden, Cameron; and his one nephew.

Jim retired in 1992 from Hershock’s, Inc. in Harrisburg, after 37 years of service working as a carpenter and window and door installer.  He was a member of Carpenters Union Local 287 and Enola Sportsmen’s Association .  Jim was a self-taught carpenter and when he was only 19, along with his grandfather, he built his family’s first house, which still stands today.  He was a hard worker all his life and did not stop working until he was 80.  In his leisure time, Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and square dancing with his wife; even performing for entertainment at the Pennsylvania Farm Show and Gratz Fair.  He was a stern, honest, and loving man who would do anything to help others.  Jim is warmly remembered as a great father to his children and his entire family.

All are welcome to join Jim’s family at his viewing on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Daybreak Church , 321 Gettysburg Pike, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Ronald O’Neil officiating.  Burial will follow in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill.  Jim’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the church following the burial.
