James “Jim” or “Shorty” Short, 62, of
Mechanicsburg
and formerly of
Point Breeze
died at home and surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, April 19, 2012. He was born in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, August 2, 1949, son of the late James Short and Elizabeth Jane (McBride) Short. Jim was the husband of Kathleen Mary (Feeley) Short who he married on May 6, 1978.
Jim graduated from
Central Catholic High School
in Pittsburgh as part of the class of 1967 and from the
University of Pittsburgh
in 1994 at the age of 44. He was a member of
St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church
in Mechanicsburg. Jim completely enjoyed his job and the people he worked with at the
Mechanicsburg Navy Depot
. He loved birds of all kinds and could name every bird pointed out to him. Jim was,
“The Who’s biggest fan of all time”
. He greatly enjoyed the beach, especially the Bahamas and Key West. Above all Jim cherished his time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Jim’s survivors include his loving wife of almost 34 years: Kathleen Mary (Feeley) Short; his five loving children: David Newell and his wife Donna of Nebraska, Jennifer Rozycki and her husband Jeff of Alabama, Christopher Newell and his wife Erin of Pittsburgh, Stephanie Short and Gary of Pittsburgh, James M. Short of Pittsburgh; five grandsons; eight granddaughters with another one on the way; four brothers; three sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
All are welcome to join Jim’s family at his viewing on Sunday, April 22, 2012, from 2:00 until time of prayer service at 4:00 at
Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory
, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17055. There will be a farewell ceremony immediately following the prayer service with cremation to follow. All are also welcome to join Jim’s family at his visitation on Saturday, April 28, 2012, from 10:30 until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 at
St. Bede Roman Catholic Church
