Jan Marie (Harclerode) Sloat

Jan Marie (Harclerode) Sloat, age 74, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2018. Jan was born on Saturday, October 7, 1944 in Harrisburg to the late John Nissley Harclerode and Evelyn Frances (Wellar) Harclerode.
Jan’s survivors include her husband of 53 years, Steven “Steve” William Sloat; her three children: Scott Sloat and his wife, Maria, of Boiling Springs, PA, Stacey Donagher and her husband, Gerald, of St. Augustine, FL, Stephanie Harkins and her husband, Edward, of Skippack, PA; her five grandchildren: Bobbi Donagher, Benjamin Sloat, Wesley Donagher, Sofia Sloat, Hayden Harkins; her two sisters: Judy Banks and her husband, J. Robert, of Newtown Square, PA, Jo Ellen Thompson of New Mexico; and several nieces and nephews.
Jan graduated from Central Dauphin High School as part of the class of 1962. She retired from the office of Dr. Francis Xavier Perna, MD in Camp Hill, after 13 years of service working as a medical secretary. Jan was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Shiremanstown, where she helped with funeral luncheons and served as a member of the Prayer Shawl Ministry and Helping Hands. She loved to spend time tending to her garden and knitting. Jan also enjoyed traveling and looking for more antiques to add to her collection. She was a very social and friendly woman that had many friends of which she did a lot with. Jan’s most treasured thing in life was her grandchildren and she cherished the time spent with them.
All are welcome to join Jan’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Saturday, December 22, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 44 West Main Street, Shiremanstown, PA 17011; with The Reverend Sarah M. Keilholtz officiating. Jan’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at her church following the service. Interment in St. John’s Cemetery in Mechanicsburg will be at the family’s convenience. Cremation was private.
