Jane Helene (Carey) Eckerd, 72, of Mechanicsburg died at Holy Spirit Hospital on Monday, June 11, 2012, after a long battle with leukemia. She was born in Mt. Tabor on Tuesday, July 25, 1939, daughter of the late Wharton and Helen Marie (Sterner) Carey.

Jane graduated from Biglerville High School as part of the class of 1958. She retired from PA Department of Transportation with more than 20 years of service. Jane received many awards during her employment. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg. Jane was an extremely gifted artist who loved to paint, work with ceramics, and hand paint figurines for the classmates of her grandchildren during the holidays. She cherished her family and her grandchildren always came first. Jane especially enjoyed impromptu family gatherings.

Jane’s survivors include her loving sons, John W. Eckerd and his wife Cynthia of Mechanicsburg and Daniel C. Eckerd and his wife Deborah of Carlisle; five granddaughters, Megan Eckerd of Bethlehem, Hollianne Eckerd of Budd Lake, NJ, Erin Eckerd of Mechanicsburg, Emily Eckerd of Mechanicsburg, Kelly Eckerd of Carlisle; a sister Joyce Kapp of Mechanicsburg; and several nieces and nephews. Among those preceding Jane in death are three brothers,William, Richard and Kenneth Carey.

All are welcome to join Jane’s family at her viewing on Thursday, June 14, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 on Friday, June 15, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church , 400 E. Simpson St., Mechanicsburg. Burial will immediately follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Aspers, PA.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Central Pennsylvania Cha pter, 2405 Park Drive, Suite 100, H arrisburg, PA 17110.
