Janet “Jan” Elaine (Lahr) Prock, 59, of Maryland , and formerly of Harrisburg , died unexpectedly at Suburban Hospital in Maryland and in the arms of her loving husband on Wednesday, October 31, 2012. She was born in Harrisburg, on Monday, November 10, 1952, daughter of the late John J. Lahr and Lorraine Kay (Derick) Lahr. Jan was the wife of Jackie Raymond “Jack” Prock whom she married on May 12, 2001.
Jan graduated from Susquehanna Township High School as part of the class of 1970. Known as “Butterball” to her family she was an accomplished pianist and guitarist. Jan found great joy in dancing, especially with her husband. She enjoyed gardening and just digging in the dirt. Audible books were a special treat for Jan and she spent many hours with her needlepoint. Her sister, Ginny, smiles when she calls Jan a “Shopping Ninja.”
Jan’s survivors include her loving husband of 11 years, Jackie Raymond “Jack” Prock of Maryland; her sister, Virginia “Ginny” K. Verne and her husband Lore and her children Austin and Kathleen all of Middletown; her cousin, Lorain Derick Hambright of Mechanicsburg; and her two black cats, Shado and Oreo.
All are welcome to join Jan’s family at her visitation on Saturday, November 10, 2012, from 1:00 until time of service at 2:00 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Burial will be private and at the family’s convenience in Mechanicsburg Cemetery . Cremation was private. Jan’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Snappers, 120 East Allen Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, following the service.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Women’s Shelter at Bethesda Mission of Harrisburg, 611 Reilly Street, Harrisburg, PA 17105.
