Janice Mabel Flury

Janice Mabel (McCoy) Flury, age 93, of Luray, VA and formerly of Carlisle, PA died at Hidden Springs Assisted Living in Bentonville, VA on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. Janice was born on September 26, 1931, in Huntsdale, PA to the late Merle McCoy and Lillian (Zimmerman) McCoy. Janice was the widow of John Flury, who died on March 28, 2012. In addition to her parents and husband, Janice is preceded in death by her brothers Merle, Gerald, Marlin and her sister Margie Bair.

Janice’s survivors include her two children: Dennis Flury and wife, Joan, of Luray, VA and Vickie Lynn Vogelsong and husband, Harold, of North Grafton, MA; her four grandchildren; Chad Vogelsong and wife, Kira, Ryan Vogelsong and wife, Nicole, Jesse Flury and wife, Heather, David Flury and wife, Julie, her five great-grandchildren; Hannah Connor, Ryder Vogelsong, Raegan Flury, Charlotte Flury, Willow Flury, her two sisters: Mary Ellen Boyd and Norma Jane Miller, both of Carlisle; and several nieces and nephews.

Janice graduated from Boiling Springs High School as part of the class of 1949. She entered the workforce at Blue Shield in  Camp Hill in 1967, was later employed as a library aide for Cumberland Valley High School, and also as a ward secretary for the Cumberland County Nursing Home. Janice loved to sew and was an accomplished seamstress, who made much of her own clothing and clothing for Vickie and others. Janice was a long-time member of Trinity Global Methodist Church in New Kingston, where she volunteered in the kitchen for church events. Janice was very active during her life. She played golf at Mayapple Golf Club and the Carlisle Barracks Golf Course; and enjoyed baseball. Janice's favorite team was the San Francisco Giants. She walked nearly every day, well into her eighties. Janice wanted to experience new cultures, food and countries which fueled her passion for travel. She enjoyed going on bus trips with her husband, John, and they made several trips to Germany to visit their son, Dennis, while he was serving in the Army.  Janice will be missed by all who have had the privilege to know her.

All are welcome to join Janice’s family at her Celebration of Life Open House and gathering of family and friends on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with a time of remembrance at 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig’s Gathering Place, 25 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, (717) 766-3421 (next to Buhrig Funeral & Cremation); with Pastor Joseph L. Kugle officiating. Over 100 parking spaces are available; just look for the “Buhrig” parking signs in all of the parking lots. Interment was private and at the convenience of the family. Cremation was private.
