Jean J. (Jackson) Callahan, age 97, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully while being comforted by her loving family on Monday, April 3, 2017. Jean was born on Tuesday, November 25, 1919 in Pittsburgh to the late William B. Jackson and Frances (Robinson) Jackson. In addition to her parents, Jean is preceded in death by her two sons: David G. Fisher, Ted A. Fisher; and her sister, Dorothy Null.
Jean’s survivors include her loving husband of 31 years, Edward F. Callahan; her two step-sons: Edward “Ed” Callahan and his wife, Corena, of Mechanicsburg, Richard “Rick” Callahan of Camp Hill; her six grandchildren: Kellie Fisher of New York City, Bradly Fisher and his wife, Shelley, of Dillsburg, Linda Lechthaler and her husband, Brett, of Mechanicsburg, Mollie Arturi and her husband, Anthony, of River Edge, NJ, Ryan Callahan, Craig Callahan; her great-grandchildren: David Arturi, Hope Arturi, Henry Arturi, Hoyt Lechthaler, Ted Lechthaler; and her sister, Ruth Farrow of Leigh Valley.
Jean retired from the Navy Ship Parts Control Center in Mechanicsburg, after 33 years of service working as a budget analyst. She was a member of the Carlisle County Club and a life member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE). Jean was an excellent golfer and was known for achieving a hole-in-one. She was also a good cook and her family always looked forward to indulging in one of her wonderful homemade pies.
All are welcome to join Jean’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Friday, April 7, 2017, from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George Spangler officiating. Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery. Cremation was private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in celebration of Jean’s life can be made to Celtic Hospice, 220 Wilson Street, Suite 100, Carlisle, PA 17013.
