Jean Valeria (Vogelsong) Rickrode, 80, of Martinsburg, WV , and formerly of Mechanicsburg , died at Berkeley Medical Center on Sunday, August 18, 2013. She was born in New Kingstown, on Saturday, September 17, 1932, daughter of the late Frank Preston Vogelsong and Cora Sarah (Eckert) Vogelsong. Jean was the wife of Steven Hoyt Rickrode whom she married on April 26, 1969.
Jean’s survivors include her loving husband of 44 years, Steven; her children, Shirley Trosper and her husband Harry of SC, Margaret Henderson and her husband Justin of TX, Lois Eichelberger of Enola, Jeff Eichelberger of NJ, Steven Rickrode Jr. and his wife Marie of WV; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Among those preceding Jean in death are her daughter, Bonnie Heck; and her brothers, Harold Vogelsong and Preston Vogelsong.
Jean graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1950. She retired from Miller & Sons Bus in Mechanicsburg, after 43 years of service working as a school bus driver. Jean was a longtime member of First Church of God in Mechanicsburg, where she served as Adult Education 2 Sunday School Superintendent, and currently a member of Blairs Valley Church of God in Clear Spring, MD. She was a member for over 30 years of Farm Women Group 6 where she served as President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Jean was a beautiful woman who enjoyed playing cards, doing puzzles, gardening, baking and traveling with her husband.
All are welcome to join Jean’s family at her viewing on Saturday, August 24, 2013, from 9:30 until time of service at 10:30 at First Church of God , 28 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Pastor Robert H. Stone officiating. Burial will follow in Saint John’s Cemetery in Mechanicsburg. The family suggests memorial contributions to Jean V. Rickrode in Memoriam , c/o Steven Rickrode Sr., 1094 Whiting Neck Road, Martinsburg, WV 25404.
