Joan Marie (Miller) Shambaugh, age 85, of Mechanicsburg passed away at UPMC Pinnacle Harrisburg Hospital on Wednesday, August 25, 2021. Joan was born on Monday, May 11, 1936, in Mechanicsburg to the late Asa Mervin Miller and Nellie Elizabeth (Pennington) Miller. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Dr. Robert Miller and her son-in-law, Charles Cameron
Joan’s survivors include her husband of 66 years, Jack Leroy Shambaugh, Sr.; her two children: Dawn Ann Cameron of Lewisberry; Jack Leroy Shambaugh, Jr. and wife, Coral, of Mechanicsburg; her five granddaughters: Kendra Testa and husband, Mike; Katherine Fox and husband, Joel; Karolyn Sherwood and husband, Nate; Jackie Ariola and husband, Kyle; and Karlee Shambaugh; her eight great-grandchildren: Riley, Michael, Ethan, Willow, Addison, Mason, Elise and Cleo; her two siblings: Nancy Kapp and husband, Jack, of Mechanicsburg and Gary Miller and wife, Nancy, of Dover; and several nieces and nephews.
Joan graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1954, the same year as her high school sweetheart, Jack. She retired from Book of the Month Club in Mechanicsburg, after many years of service working as an administrative assistant. For many years, Joan was involved with the food ministries at West Shore Evangelical Free Church and Christian Life Assembly Church. Joan gladly volunteered with the Cambodian outreach at West Shore. She also helped prepare and serve funeral meals at Christian Life Assembly church. At the present time, Joan attended Bowmansdale Church of God with her husband, Jack. Joan was known to have a green thumb. Her passion for her vegetable gardens and love of flowers showed in the large overflowing gardens that she tended with care. She often shared the plentiful rewards with family and friends. Her family will miss her greatly.
All are welcome to join Joan’s family at her viewing on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a service beginning at 2:30 p.m. all at Bowmansdale Church of God, , 101 East Lisburn Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Charles Hostetter and Pastor Robert Huber. Burial will follow the service in Mechanicsburg Cemetery. Joan’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at her church following the burial.
