Joanne (Harvey) Allen, age 86, of Mechanicsburg and formerly of Hightstown, NJ died of pneumonia at Spring Creek Hospice, Harrisburg on Sunday, March 13, 2022, after a long debilitating illness.  Joanne was born on Monday, August 19, 1935, in Germantown to the late Walter Elliot Harvey and Alice May (Smith) Harvey.  Joanne was the widow of Lewis Harry Allen.

Joanne’s survivors include her two sons: Mark R. Allen of Mechanicsburg and John Allen and his wife, Susan, of Halifax; her two daughters: Katherine “Kit” Zupan and her husband, Jim, of Woodbridge, VA and Helen Imre and her husband, Atilla, of North Brunswick, NJ; her two grandchildren: Benjamin and Kate Zupan; her two great-grandchildren; her brother, Walter E. Harvey, Jr., now a resident of Costa Rica.; her sister, Carolyn (Harvey) Gottfried, of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

She graduated from Hightstown High School in 1953 and began a nursing degree at Temple University, in Philadelphia, but then met and married Lewis Harry Allen of Freehold, NJ in 1955. She later completed her degree while raising four children and working part-time at Sunlawn Nursing Home, in Hightstown, NJ.  Her specialty was geriatric nursing. Joanne survived her husband’s death in 1999. She retired as the Director of Nursing at Rosemont Rehabilitation Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ and subsequently moved to Mechanicsburg, PA.  She was a Master Gardener, a member of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and a volunteer at Kings Gap where she specialized in composting. Joanne also painted landscapes and enjoyed helping at the senior center.

Joanne’s family will be remembering her life privately.  Cremation was private.
