Loved Laughing with Family and Friends -
Joanne Mary (Messina) Cave, age 79, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Hermitage, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, May 1, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer. Joanne was born on Saturday, August 15, 1936 in Sharon, PA to the late Samuel Messina and Gertrude (Stigleman) Messina. Joanne was the widow of Thomas Joseph Cave, whom she married on November 29, 1956, and who died on January 8, 2014. In addition to her parents and husband, Joanne is preceded in death by her beautiful daughter, Susan Ann Daisley.
Joanne’s survivors include her one daughter, Paula (Cave) Zreliak of Mechanicsburg; her son-in-law, Daniel Daisley of Mechanicsburg; her five grandchildren: Kelly (Daisley) Duck and her husband, Patrick, of Camp Hill, Jill (Daisley) Andrechek and her husband, Matthew, of Camp Hill, Nicole (Zreliak) Boyle and her husband, Clayton, of Sharpsville, PA, Samuel Daisley and his wife, April, of New Cumberland, Mark Zreliak and his wife, Chelsey of Harrisonburg, VA; her seven great-grandchildren: Sasha, Owen, Samantha, Molly, Lucas, Emma, Baby Zreliak; her brother, Raymond Messina and his wife, Mary Ann, of Greenville; her faithful sidekick, Gabby or “Gooby”; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Joanne graduated from Sharon High School as part of the class of 1955 and she studied at Saint Vincent’s School of Nursing in Erie. Along with her husband, she owned and operated T.J. Upholstery for many years. Joanne loved working alongside her husband and enjoyed sewing and doing embroidery work that was needed to reupholster furniture. Joanne was a devout Roman Catholic and her faith in the Lord never wavered. A member of Church of Notre Dame Parish in Hermitage and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg, Joanne enjoyed spending time with her friends from church, attending Mass, and discussing the Bible, which she always kept near her. She liked to sew and crochet, and her specialty was the countless dishcloths that she made for her children and grandchildren. Joanne was a talented cook and excellent baker who loved to share her recipes with her family while passing on her wisdom in the kitchen. Her special pie crust was a family favorite. Joanne will be remembered for her sense of humor and for making people laugh with the stories she loved to tell. She was at her best when surrounded by friends and family, telling funny stories and laughing the night away. Joanne will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
All are welcome to join Joanne’s family at her viewing on Thursday, May 5, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State Street, Sharon, PA 16146; and for her Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Church of Notre Dame Parish, 2325 Highland Road, Hermitage, PA 16148; with Rev. Jeffery J. Noble celebrating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hermitage.
