Joanne Ranae (Uhler) Hertzler

Joanne Ranae (Uhler) Hertzler, age 73, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2023.  Joanne was born on Thursday, December 22, 1949, in Bellmawr, NJ to the late Joseph Uhler and Helen Rana (Nye) Uhler.  In addition to her parents, Joanne is preceded in death by her two brothers, Joseph and Clyde “Frank” Uhler.

Joanne’s survivors include her husband of 54 years, Ronald “Ron” Leroy Hertzler; her son, Simon L. Hertzler of Mechanicsburg; her daughter, Helen R. Grundon and her husband, James, of Lemoyne; her three grandchildren: Laura Hertzler, Michael Grundon, Ruby Grundon; her three siblings: John Uhler and his wife, Joan, of Mesquite, NV; Larry Uhler and his wife, Rhonda, of Rutherford; Rachel Lerch and her husband, Robert, of Centreville, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

Joanne graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1968.  She worked as a clerk at Book of the Month Club and was a teacher’s aide at the First Church of God Daycare.  Joanne was a member of Washington Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary in Mechanicsburg and a social member of the Union Fire Company in Carlisle.  She enjoyed going on long car rides, especially if ice cream was involved, playing card games such as Solitaire and Skip Bo and collecting turtle and cat figurines.  More than anything else, Joanne loved her family and time spent with her grandchildren.  She frequently attended their sporting events, loved nothing more than to spoil them and always had something fun planned for them on holidays, like pumpkin carving and Easter egg hunts.  Joanne will be deeply missed.

Joanne’s family will be celebrating her life privately.  Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville will be at the family’s convenience.  Cremation was private.
