Joanne Elizabeth (Gutshall) Roberts

Joanne Elizabeth (Gutshall) Roberts, age 82, of Carlisle, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 7, 2022. Joanne was born on Tuesday, April 18, 1939, in Blain to the late Eugene E. Gutshall and Gladys K. (Spotts) Gutshall.

Joanne’s survivors include her daughter, Cindy Bedorf and her husband, Jim, of Harrisburg; her son, Tony Roberts and his wife, Melissa, of Mechanicsburg; her three grandchildren: Brenden Bedorf, Sophia Bedorf and Aidan Roberts; and her brother, Virgil Gutshall, Sr.

Joanne took great delight in baking and always did so from scratch. She cherished her barefoot time outdoors and enjoyed gardening; Joanne was a master at growing weeds. When she wasn’t cheering for the Penn State football team, Joanne would indulge in her favorite television shows: Dallas, Jeopardy, Good Day PA and Wheel of Fortune. She would often make use of her free time by doing word searches and attending bingo. Even though Joanne was known to be stubborn and fiercely independent, she loved being “Grams” to her grandchildren and grand-fur-babies and was a “mom” to every kid in the neighborhood. She never missed her grandchildren’s activities and frequently volunteered at her children and grandchildren’s schools.

All are welcome to join Joanne’s family at her celebration of life open house and gathering of family and friends on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Buhrig’s Gathering Place, 25 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, (717) 766-3421 (next to Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory). In keeping with the family’s style and wishes, guests are invited to dress casually and comfortably. Over 100 parking spaces are available; just look for the “Buhrig” parking signs in all of the parking lots. A graveside service will begin at 3:00 p.m. in Blain Cemetery. Cremation was private.
