Joel Anthony Shumberger
Always Down For a Good Time -
Joel Anthony Shumberger, age 25, of Mechanicsburg, joined his family in Heaven on Wednesday, November 16, 2016. Joel was born on Sunday, June 9, 1991 in Carlisle to Tammy Lynn Shumberger. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Robert Shumberger, Sr.
Joel’s survivors include his mother, Tammy Shumberger of Mechanicsburg and her companion, Milton Collins of Mount Union; his brother, Joshua “Josh” Shumberger and his fiancé, Corrine Williams, of Hilliard, OH; his maternal grandmother, Mildred Shumberger; his four uncles: Robert Shumberger, Jr., Keith Shumberger, Curtis Shumberger and his wife, Rae Ann, Kevin Shumberger and his wife, Lora; and his cousins: Corey and Caitlyn.
Joel graduated from Cumberland Valley High School as part of the class of 2009 where he attended Cumberland Perry Area Vocational Technical School (CPAVTS) where he studied automotive and diesel technology. He also went to Universal Technical Institute; Joel was a forever learner who received various certificates over the years. He grew up in and attended Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Boiling Springs with his family. Joel worked at Five Star International Trucking as a diesel mechanic and most currently, at West Shore EMS as a fleet mechanic. He was always there for his family and friends, especially when they were in need. Joel was a yes-man and he was always saying, “let’s do it”, especially if it involved having a good time.
He enjoyed fitness and taking care of himself. Joel could be found running and lifting every morning at 4:00 a.m. He was a committed individual to ideals as well as to the people around him. Joel was a sci-fi geek, a diehard Philadelphia Eagles fan, and he liked to collect Legos. He also shared his Uncle Keith’s taste in music. Joel will be remembered for his dry sense of humor and one-liner jokes. His family holds many memories of Joel such as the time he and his brother, Josh, went kayaking in Lake Erie and his grandmother recalls when Joel had perfect scores year after year in school. She remembers how knowledgeable and studious Joel was, which may have been because his great-grandfather was the first principle of Monroe Elementary in Boiling Springs. Joel will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and co-workers.
All are welcome to join Joel’s family at his viewing on Sunday, November 20, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Monday, November 21, 2016, from 11:30 a.m. until time of service at 12:30 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with The Reverend Deborah L.
