John Scott Atwood

A Content Spirit -

John Scott Atwood, age 48, of Harrisburg, was embraced by his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, August 15, 2017.  John was born on Friday, May 9, 1969 in Buffalo, New York the son of Robert Gerald Atwood and Janice “Jan” Marie (Burke) Atwood.

John’s survivors include his parents: Robert Gerald Atwood and Janice “Jan” Marie (Burke) Atwood of Mechanicsburg; his sister and her family: Elizabeth Bolden and her husband, Timothy, and their daughters, Carolyn and Jennifer; and all of John’s friends and caregivers at Devonshire Heights Group Home in Harrisburg.

John lived his entire life in contentment.  His spirit was always at peace and his heart was happy with the simplicity of a moment.  As he encountered his world, he took the time to explore which was part of his inquisitive nature.  John had a memory which allowed him to enjoy those things that had brought him joy in the past.  He had a keen eye for balls and frisbees and all things round.  We should all be so fortunate as to be so content with the simple things that life has to offer which is much more than most people will ever find.

All are welcome to join John’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Monday, August 21, 2017, from 10:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor George C. Jensen officiating.  John’s family invites those who attend his funeral to join them for a luncheon at Stage and Studio Café immediately following the funeral service.  Burial in St. John’s Cemetery in Mechanicsburg will be private.

The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to everyone at Allegheny Valley School who so lovingly cared for John through the years.  Contributions in celebration of John’s life can be made to Enola First Church of God, 9 Sherwood Drive, Enola, PA 17025.

John’s family has entrusted his care to Myers – Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421.  Read John’s full obituary, view his memorial portrait, and sign his official guest book at Buhrig.com.
