John “Jack” Preston Voris, age 83, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, January 11, 2024. Jack was born on Wednesday, December 11, 1940, in Lewistown to the late John A. Voris and Dorothy I. (Fisher) Voris. In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by his two sisters: Peggy J. Moore and Ruth Frazer.
Jack’s survivors include his wife of 63 years, Alice “Diane” Diane (Deitrich) Voris; his two children: Jill Suzanne Ford of Mechanicsburg, John “Rick” Richard Voris of Mechanicsburg; his two grandchildren: Kyrsten Leigh Ford, Kylee Suzanne Ford; and several nieces and nephews.
Jack graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1958 and from Harrisburg Area Community College with an Associate’s degree in business administration. He also took management courses at York College and University of Pennsylvania. He retired from AMP in 1997 after years of service working as an ACS Production Manager. Jack was a member of Shiremanstown United Methodist for over 50 years; was a member of the Eureka - West Shore Lodge No. 302 F&AM, and the Mechanicsburg Club both in Mechanicsburg. Jack was very athletic and played Little League baseball and football while in high school. He also loved to hunt, fish and ski. Jack enjoyed watching Friday Night Fights, supporting the Washington Commanders of the NFL, and Ohio State and Penn State Football. Jack and Diane spent many Saturdays in State College, PA watching Penn State Football home games. He and Diane also loved to travel across the United States and especially loved vacationing in Bermuda. Jack cherished his family, and was devoted to his granddaughters. Jack’s leadership, his easy-going personality, his jovial laugh, and bright smile, will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
All are welcome to join Jack’s family at his viewing on Friday, January 19, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until a Masonic Ceremony beginning at 1:15 p.m. Immediately following will be Jack’s funeral service at 1:30 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Jane Keller officiating. Burial will follow the service in Mechanicsburg Cemetery in Mechanicsburg. Jack’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the burial.
