John “Jerry” G. Slovensky, 59, of Mechanicsburg , and formerly of Kittanning , died at Armstrong County Health Center on Thursday, October 11, 2012. He was born in Pittsburgh, on Wednesday, June 24, 1953, son of the late John J. Slovensky and Mary (Samaj) Slovensky.
Jerry was a former student of Holy Trinity Catholic School and Kittanning High School . He graduated from Lenape Vo-Tech as part of the class of 1971. For the past 40 years Jerry was a resident of Carlisle and Mechanicsburg and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg. He worked for several banks in both Carlisle and Mechanicsburg. Working with electronics was a favorite hobby of Jerry's and he was a huge computer buff. He also frequently attended Star Trek Conventions and enjoyed participating in his book club. Jerry fought for life for many years and his family and friends will always remember him as their hero.
Jerry’s survivors include his good friend, Valerie Shock and her parents Helen & Lamont Shock; his Uncle and Aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Slovensky; numerous cousins; and many friends. Among those preceding Jerry in death are his cousins, David and Charlotte.
All are welcome to join Jerry’s family at his viewing on Saturday, October 13, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 at Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services , 515 North McKean Street, Kittanning, PA 16201 and on Monday, October 15, 2012, from 10:00 until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 at St. Joseph Catholic Church , 400 East Simpson Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Reverend David M. Hereshko celebrating. Burial will immediately follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Mechanicsburg.
