John “Mike” Michael Kucek

Loved to Volunteer and Help Others -

John “Mike” Michael Kucek, age 67, of Mechanicsburg, was called Home peacefully with his loving wife by his side on Wednesday, June 7, 2017.  Mike was born on Sunday, December 18, 1949 in Clear Fork, WV to the late John Peter Kucek and Beulah Fay (Hinkle) Kucek.

John’s survivors include his wife of 46 years, Diana (Hesse) Kucek; his four children: Amy Kucek and her husband, James Jayko, of Malvern, PA, Christina Kucek and her daughter, Alaina Sophia Jones, of Boca Raton, FL, John Paul Kucek and his wife, Stephanie, and their son, John Owen Kucek, of Atlanta, GA, Mary Elizabeth Kucek and her fiancé, Dr. Devin Bustin, of Tallahassee, FL; his two sisters: Gail Satterfield and her husband, Byron, of Bluefield, WV, Joan Webster and her husband, Bill, of Oceana, WV; and several nieces and nephews.

Mike graduated from Marshall University in 1970.  He worked as a manager for IBM in Camp Hill for over 26 years and then as a Branch Manager for CAI in Harrisburg for over 17 years and until his death.  Mike had a true passion for life and enjoyed being a practical joker.  Everyone who knew Mike knew that he loved his cars and golfing but that above all he was deeply devoted to his beloved wife and their loving children who were such blessings in his life.

Mike was proud to have helped create the Jake Gittlen Memorial Golf and Fishing Tournaments benefitting cancer research.  He was deeply involved with Little League Baseball having served as the Upper Allen Township Little League Baseball Commissioner for five years and having coached for over 19 years and much of that time coaching with his wife, Diana.  In fact, Diana, with Mike by her side, founded a girl’s fast-pitch softball league in Mechanicsburg and Upper Allen Township where Mike was a coach.  There were so many instances of Mike volunteering and helping other people but he remained a private and humble person knowing that his reward would not be recognition in this life but in Heaven.

All are welcome to join Mike’s family for a time of greeting of family and friends on Saturday, June 24, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.  They ask that those who knew and loved Mike remember and honor him by supporting the American Cancer Society who works tirelessly to end such a terrible disease.  Donations can be made by mail to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 897, Hershey, PA  17033; by telephone by dialing 1-800-227-2345; or on the web at https://www.cancer.org/involved/donate/memorial-giving.html.
