John “Rick” Frederick Dapp II

A Man of Incredible Wit -

John “Rick” Frederick Dapp II, age 67, of Wellsville, and formerly of Mechanicsburg and Camden, SC, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, October 16, 2018.  Rick was born on Monday, April 23, 1951 in Harrisburg to the late Frederick Bowman Dapp and Elizabeth (Simpson) Dapp.  In addition to his parents, Rick is preceded in death by his brother, Conrad Dapp.

Rick’s survivors include wife of 38 years, Patricia “Tris” Bowman (Bowman) Dapp; his two children: Aaron Bowman Dapp of Wellsville, Emily Bowman Pompei and her husband, George Dieffenbach, of Pittsburgh; his three precious granddaughters: Tori Markel, Bridget Markel, Lillian Dieffenbach; his great-grandson: Bowman Markel; his sister: Carol (Dapp) Farringer of Mechanicsburg; his beloved canine companion, Elliott; and his beloved feline buddy, Ra.

Rick attended Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg until his sophomore year and later graduated from Greenville High School in Greenville, SC as part of the class of 1969.  In 1973, he graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and History.  He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Camp Hill and served as a school board director for the Dover Area School District.  Rick worked as a technical writer and in the Marketing Department for AMP, Inc. in Harrisburg; and as a Columnist for Harrisburg Magazine.  His literary works included his book entitled, “Keep Turning Right, You’ll Get There Eventually” which was published in 2015 and his unpublished manuscript entitled, “A Distant Meeting”.  Rick had a passion for horses and spent many hours in the saddle.  He loved to train horses and volunteered with the Harrisburg Horse Show Association.  His passion for riding extended to motorcycles as well, he enjoyed the time spent on his Triumph and Honda motorcycles.  Rick’s family and friends fondly remember him as a great conversationalist; having a quick wit, a wonderful sense of humor and for his encyclopedia-like intelligence.

All are welcome to join Rick’s family at his memorial service on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut Street, Camp Hill, PA 17011. Cremation was private. A dessert reception will be provided in Fellowship Hall following the memorial and celebration of life service
