Joseph “Joe” Grant Callaway, age 56, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on June 4, 2024 at home. Joe spent his last few weeks with family and friends paying visits, his beloved goldens Pandora and ‘Ohana, and most importantly his soul mate and wife, Stacie (Owens) Callaway, and his children Kyle and Nicole, by his side.
Joe was born on December 28, 1967 at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, PA to parents Annabel (Moyer) Callaway and Warren Joseph Callaway, deceased respectively in 2008 and 2011.
In school, Joe showed real talent in his shop classes, and decided to attend Vale Tech in Blairsville, PA to study automotive technology. At age 19, he secured a job with Faulkner Pontiac in Harrisburg and continued to work for Faulkner in various capacities until 2024. Joe was a perfectionist in his work and received hundreds of positive reviews from customers whose cars he repaired over the years. He was just as precise about projects at home: creating a workshop in the garage, building a walk-in closet in their bedroom, as well as making improvements to much of their home.
Following the model established by his parents, Joe was a loving, generous and consistent father to his children Kyle and Nicole. He was incredibly proud of the people they have become. Family was the most important thing in his life. He was also a loving dog dad, sharing laughs with Stacie almost every day at Pandora and ‘Ohana’s crazy antics.
In Stacie, Joe knew and appreciated that he had found his soulmate. They shared a love for Pittsburgh sports, especially Pirates spring training in Bradenton, Florida, trips to Disney and their cabin in Potter County, the children and the dogs. They stuck together through family losses, disappointment, health crises, and finally Joe’s courageous battle, in this case, it wasn’t just Joe’s fight. Stacie was with him every step of the way, continuing to care for him at home in his final days.
In addition to his wife and two children, Joe is survived by his brother Bill Long and his wife Donna, of Mechanicsburg and their son Brett of Wellsboro, PA; and also his sister Lori Beneyton of Coopersburg, PA and her three children, Edi, Irina, and Sam.
