Joseph “Joe” Frederick Noll
Magician and Outdoorsman –
Joseph Frederick Noll, 77, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on April 6, 2015 in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. He was born on March 18, 1938 in Montclair New Jersey to the late Anna (Kraemer) & George W Noll of Bloomfield, NJ.
He is survived by Louann (Schaefer), his loving wife of 52 years, two daughters, Christine Eagan and her husband, Patrick, of Mechanicsburg, and Elizabeth Tilly and her husband, Eric, of Danbury Connecticut; his grandchildren Colleen, James and Shannan Eagan, and Alyeska Tilly; his sister, Annette Marks of New Jersey; his sister-in-law, Susan Schaefer of Vermont; and his nieces and nephews Annette Lasurdo, Kathleen Sanders, John Marks, George Noll and Milo Schaefer. He was preceded in death by his brother George, sister-in-law Nancy and brothers-in-law Richard Marks and Milo Schaefer III.
Growing up in Bloomfield NJ, Joe liked school, learned to play the clarinet, and ran track in high school. He was an altar boy, had a paper route and enjoyed helping his dad tend his roses. He attended Drexel Institute of Technology in Philadelphia and was a member of Delta Kappa Rho. He graduated in 1962 as a Metallurgical Engineer. Joe worked in the Quality Assurance field, primarily for Scovill Manufacturing and Century Brass; and he retired from Pacific Gas & Electric as an East Coast inspector. While in college, he met his wife, Louann; they were married on September 21, 1963 in Mountainside NJ.
Joe and his family lived in Brookfield, CT for forty years. A loving and devoted husband and father, Joe brought ‘his girls’ flowers but taught them how to change a tire; he told wonderful jokes and loved to ‘tinker’ with things; he had a strong moral compass, a quick intelligence and led by example. A recreational outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, bird watching, and gardening; he was a member of the Brookfield Sportsman’s Club, and raised Brittany Spaniels for hunting and showing. He was very involved with the Danbury Tophatter Magicians. Joe also loved music, sang with St Joseph’s adult choir and was always an avid reader. Joe enjoyed traveling with his family, especially if it involved visiting far-away friends, cultural or historic places.
Moving to Mechanicsburg PA upon retirement, Joe stayed active in the community, including Meals on Wheels, the Mechanicsburg Men’s Club, St. Joseph’s Leisure Club, and Sons of the American Legion, Post 109. Joe’s lifelong hobby was magic. He was a 50 year member of both international magic organizations, the Society of American Magicians and the International Brotherhood of Magicians. As an active member of the local groups in both Connecticut and Pennsylvania, he served as an officer and earned numerous awards. Joe loved all types of magic but preferred performing close up and small stage magic, especially coin and card tricks. His most recent ventures were with the Capital Area Magicians where he performed under the name “Granpa Bumbles”.
