Joseph “Joe” John Jurewicz
Joseph “Joe” John Jurewicz, age 83, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Shenandoah, went to Jesus peacefully at VibraLife on Sunday, May 29, 2016. Joe was born on Saturday, May 27, 1933, in Shenandoah to the late Joseph and Edna (Kiewalk) Jurewicz. Joe was the widower of Virginia “Ginny” (Valetske) Jurewicz, whom he married on May 18, 1947, and who died on March 12, 2016.
Joe’s survivors include his one sister, Rose Marie Jurewicz of Shenandoah; his brother-in-law, Charles Valetske and his wife, Shirley, of Mechanicsburg; his sister-in-law, Joan Wallace and her husband, Joseph, of Shenandoah Heights and their children, Susan, Lynn, and Joseph.
Joe was educated in Shenandoah schools, from St. Stanislaus Grammar School to J. W. Cooper High School. He was a graduate of New York Institute of Technology and served in the U.S. Army in Korea. Joe retired from the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle as a computer field service engineer. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg. Joe was a member of the former Amvets of Shenandoah and the Shenandoah Area Senior Citizens. He was a musician from an early age and played in various groups. Joe was a member of the former Our Boys band, then Amvets band, which was later the Unico band. Later in life, he joined the Singer Band in Mechanicsburg and Joe felt privileged to be the oldest participant from the J.W. Cooper High School to march in the first Shenandoah Valley Alumni Band presentation.
All are welcome to join Joe’s family at graveside service on Friday, June 10, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery in Shenandoah Heights; with Father Jose Johnson officiating.
