Joshua "Josh" Scott Schweitzer
Joshua “Josh” Scott Schweitzer, age 38, of Mechanicsburg passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2023. Josh was born on Thursday, December 13, 1984, in Harrisburg to Scott Earl Schweitzer and Mary Lou (Gansz) Brunner. Josh is preceded in death by his grandfathers: Robert Schweitzer and Marion Gansz.
Josh’s survivors include his three children: Carter, Bella, and Hayley; his father: Scott Earl Schweitzer of Ocean City, MD; his mother: Mary Lou (Gansz) Brunner of Melbourne, FL; his brother: Justin Schweitzer and his wife, Nicole, of Mechanicsburg; his two nieces: Taylar and Mackenzie; and his three grandparents: Gloria Ray Schweitzer; Thelma deleCruz Martin and her husband, Hubert.
Josh graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 2003.
Josh was outgoing and loved country music and dancing. He was able to showcase his performance skills in his award-winning Halloween costumes, which earned him first place in several competitions. Josh was a frequent camper and beach-goer. Some of his favorites were Florida beaches and Ocean City, MD where he would cook his specialty: BBQ baby back ribs. Josh was an avid sportsman who was a die-hard fan of the UNC Tar Heels, the Dallas Cowboys, Florida State Seminoles, the New York Islanders, and the Baltimore Orioles. He was a true athlete, playing basketball and football for Mechanicsburg, and played flag football for York Sports Recreation. Josh won a competition at Penn State for the furthest softball throw. Josh was always good with kids, working hard as a football coach and ensuring that the players received the best training he could offer.
All are welcome to join Josh’s family at his celebration of life open house and gathering of family and friends on Saturday, August 12, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a time of remembrance at 2:30 p.m. at Buhrig’s Gathering Place, 25 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, (717) 766-3421 (next to Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory); with celebrant Patti Vogl officiating. Over 100 parking spaces are available; just look for the “Buhrig” parking signs in all of the parking lots. Cremation was private.
