Joy Onalee (Yocum) Crawford-Akers, 62, of Mechanicsburg and formerly of Jersey Shore died at home and surrounded by her loving family on Monday, January 16, 2012.  She was born in Williamsport on Saturday, June 25, 1949 daughter of the late LaRue Yocum and Donis Lorraine (Lynn) Mutchler.  Joy was the wife of Donald Lee Akers who she married on July 12, 1996 and the widow of Ronnie Forrest Crawford who died on April 21, 1991.

Joy attended Jersey Shore High Schoo l.

Joy was a joyful person who liked almost everyone.  She was enchanted by flowers and butterflies which explains her love of gardening.  Joy was known for her colorful flowers, wonderful tomatoes and her amazing photographs.  Her photographs captured the attention of all who viewed them.  Joy enjoyed country music and she loved to dance.  Traveling with her husband, Don, was a special treat and they took many wonderful trips together.  One of Joy’s favorite outings was to venture to Atlantic City with her mother and anyone who would give her the excuse to go.

Joy’s survivors include her loving husband of 15 years: Don Akers; three children: Monica Foulds and her husband Scott of Mechanicsburg, Ronnie Crawford Jr of Carlisle, Tina Murphy and her husband Michael of Dover; three step-children: Joseph Akers and his wife Sarah of Indiana, Vanessa Rittle and her husband Jon of Maryland, Adam Akers of Harrisburg; her sister Gay Yocum of Florida; seven grandsons; two granddaughters; one great granddaughter and one niece.

All are welcome to join Joy’s family at her viewing on Thursday, January 19, 2012, from 1:00 until time of service at 2:00 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17055, (717) 766-3421, www.Myers-Buhrig.com with Tim Dugan officiating.  Burial will immediately follow in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
