Joy Ellen (Duncan) Lucas
Joy Ellen (Duncan) Lucas, age 81, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2022. Joy was born on Monday, March 31, 1941, in Mechanicsburg to the late Lawrence Woodrow Duncan and Mary Alberta (Hammaker) Kimmel. Joy was the widow of Foster “Sam” Lloyd Lucas, Sr., whom she married on April 15, 1959, and who died on July 21, 1992. In addition to her parents and husband, Joy is preceded in death by her four brothers: Aaron Duncan, James Duncan, Kenneth Duncan, David Duncan; and her sister, Janet Brooks.
Joy’s survivors include her three children: Audra Day and her husband, Robert, of Stewartstown; Mark Lucas and his wife, Nora, of Lemoyne; Foster Lucas, Jr. of Mechanicsburg; her seven grandchildren; her four great-grandchildren; her brother, William Duncan and his wife, Diane, of Mechanicsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Joy attended Mechanicsburg High School. As an adult, she went to school for Technology and later became a tractor trailer driver; she got to travel the country and loved it. For over 70 years, Joy was a member of First Church of God in Mechanicsburg and she was also on the ABC West Bowling League for many years. Joy was a fantastic cook and was known to be fiercely independent, brave, fearless and even a little feisty. She really enjoyed seeing “Riverdance” and said it was the best day of her life. Joy loved her family more than anything and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
All are welcome to join Joy’s family at her viewing on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend George A. Spangler officiating. Joy’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service. Burial will follow the reception in Mechanicsburg Cemetery. Honored to be pall bearers are Dereck Jennings, Ian Lucas, William Simpers, Samuel Day, Garrett Lucas, Andrew Day and Bailey Lucas.
