Joyce Arlene (Lucas) Schaefer

Joyce Arlene (Lucas) Schaefer, age 84, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home in Carlisle.  Joyce was born on Tuesday, June 20, 1939, in Harrisburg to the late James D. Lucas and Pauline (Miller) Lucas.  Joyce was the widow of Charles Schaefer, Sr., who died on June 13, 2022.  In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce is preceded in death by her son, Stephen Edward Schaefer; her four brothers: Ed, Foster, James, Jr.; and Darrell; and her two sisters: Shirley Statler and Karen Keller.

Joyce’s survivors include her son: Charles L. Schaefer, Jr. and wife, Leslie, of Mystic, CT; her granddaughter: Carly Schaefer of San Diego, CA; her daughter-in-law: Deborah Siters of Mechanicsburg; ; and many nieces and nephews.

During her time on Earth, Joyce enjoyed time spent with her family.  The light of her life was her granddaughter, Carly.  She was always proud of her accomplishments and cherished the time they spent together.  In her spare time, Joyce spent many hours gardening and many passionate hours scrapbooking Carly’s life events.  She also enjoyed doing arts and crafts.

All are welcome to join Joyce’s family at her celebration of life open house and gathering of family and friends on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Buhrig’s Gathering Place, 25 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, (717) 766-3421 (next to Buhrig Funeral & Cremation.  Over 100 parking spaces are available; just look for the “Buhrig” parking signs in all of the parking lots.  Private burial will take place in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill.
