Juanita “Skip” Caroline Huffer
Devoted to Her Beliefs & A Caring Nurse -
Juanita “Skip” Caroline Huffer, age 97, of Lebanon, PA, went home peacefully from Spang Crest Manor on Friday, January 6, 2017. Skip was born on Tuesday, September 30, 1919 in Staunton, VA, to the late Perry James Huffer and Pearl Josephine (James) Huffer. In addition to her parents, Skip is preceded in death by her companion of over 50 years, Ruth Foster and her two brothers, Clarence Huffer and Kyle Huffer.
Skip’s survivors include her nephew and his wife with whom she had a special relationship, Glenn & Carol Huffer of Mechanicsburg; her loyal friend who visited her everyday and always cared for her, Karen Hentz of Lebanon; her five nieces: Linda Erb, Janet Talton, Nancy Kudel, Dorothy Group, Rosalie Acre; and many dear church friends.
Skip graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Northeastern Hospital School of Nursing, now Temple University School of Nursing, as part of the class of 1954. She was fiercely proud to be an RN and loved caring for those she was called upon to serve. From 1955 until 1980, Skip worked at the Lebanon VA Medical Center where she held the position of Head Nurse for over 18 years. Following retirement, she volunteered at the Senior Center where she continued to share her skills giving flu shots and caring for her community. A lover of all animals and especially dogs, Skip volunteered at the Humane Society. She and Ruth loved to travel and visited many wonderful places over the years. Skip was one of the twelve founding members of Faith Baptist Church in Lebanon, PA, where she served as treasurer for five years. More than anything, Skip clung to the deep and meaningful relationship she had with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior, which shaped and guided her throughout her life. She prayed that everyone would come to know Jesus and find salvation.
All are welcome to join Skip’s family at her viewing on Thursday, January 12, 2017, from 12:00 p.m. until time of celebration service at 1:00 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church, 220 South 22nd Street, Lebanon, PA 17042; with Pastor Wayne A.
