Julia A. (Shearer) Roth
“I’m a Tough Ole Bird” -
Julia A. (Shearer) Roth, age 97, of Shiremanstown, died at Country Meadows in Mechanicsburg surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, March 29, 2014. Born in Lower Paxton Township on Saturday, September 2, 1916, she was the daughter of the late David M. Shearer and Mary Elizabeth (Thomson) Shearer. Julia was the widow of Ivan J. Roth whom she married on June 10, 1935.
Julia’s survivors include her loving daughter, Beverly Warren of Shiremanstown; her grandsons, Bradley Warren of Mechanicsburg and his wife Michele, Brett Warren of Harrisburg and his wife Jessica; her three great-grandchildren, Alec Warren, Rebekah Warren, and Adam Warren; and several nieces and nephews. Among those preceding Julia in death are her sister, Hannah Baer Neumann, and several half brothers and half sisters.
Julia graduated from Hummelstown High School, class of 1933. Julia and her husband were the co-owners and operators of Ivan J. Roth Meats located in the West Shore Famers Market in Lemoyne. After retirement, she worked in the gift shop of The Embers in Carlisle and later at Shaffer’s Abattoir in the West Shore Farmer’s Market. Julia was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Shiremanstown for more than 75 years and a member of the O.E.S. Steadfast Chapter #479. She was especially known for her Santa Claus collection and mowing while riding her John Deere Tractor. Julia was a kindhearted, selfless, generous person throughout her entire life.
All are welcome to join Julia’s family at her visitation on Thursday, April 3, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 44 West Main Street, Shiremanstown, with Pastor Michael L. Seifried and Pastor Sarah M. Keilholtz officiating. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 44 West Main Street, Shiremanstown, PA 17011. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to all the staff at Country Meadows for their dedicated and compassionate care.
