Dr. Julienne “Julie” Lee (Ruth) Fahnestock, 50, unexpectedly and peacefully passed from among us on Sunday, December 8, 2013, in Harrisburg Hospital with her husband at her side. She was born on Friday, August 9, 1963, in Eugene, OR, daughter of Byron Kenneth Ruth and Sharon (Thompson) Ruth of Camp Hill, PA.
Julie was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Eastern Virginia Medical School . She completed her residency program with Pinnacle and taught in that residency program until it was closed. Julie was a family practice physician with PinnacleHealth’s Mechanicsburg Family Practice Center for 25 years. She held numerous professional affiliations including the America Diabetes Association, the American Board of Family Medicine, and the American Academy of Family Physicians. Julie was a member of Olde Bellaire Chapter 375 Order of the Eastern Star , St. John’s Commandery Ladies Auxiliary , the Mechanicsburg Museum Association , and she was a supporter of the Cleve J. Fredrickson Library in Camp Hill.
Julie is survived by her husband and best friend of 15 years, Larry A. Fahnestock, whom she married on January 23, 1999, in Trindle Springs Lutheran Church where they are members. They lived in their Upper Allen home where she enjoyed gardening and preserving the bounty. She enjoyed sewing and was an exceptional seamstress. Julie was also an avid reader. Together they enjoyed vacations, attending many Masonic functions, working in their yard, being with friends and family, and quiet time together by the fireplace.
She is also survived by her parents; her sister and brother-in-law, Jenny and David Hoffman of Wayne, PA; a brother-in-law, Donald A. Fahnestock and his wife Mona of Mechanicsburg, PA; a brother-in-law, Ronald A. Fahnestock and his wife Marna of Portland, OR; seven nieces and three nephews. Julie’s gentle and caring personality made all who knew her love her. She gave of herself unselfishly to her patients, co-workers, friends, and family. She touched many lives and will be missed more than she will ever know.
All are welcome to join Julie’s family at her viewing on Friday, December 13, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, December 14, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. when there will be a closing ceremony, all at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Julie’s funeral service will be on Saturday, December 14, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Trindle Spring Lutheran Church , 14 State Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050, with Pastor Richard G. Lorenz and Pastor Sigrid Hipkiss officiating.
Julie’s family invites everyone to join them for a Celebration of Life Reception at the church immediately following the funeral service on Saturday with a Time of Sharing to begin at 12:45 p.m. Cremation will be private and interment in St. John’s Cemetery in Mechanicsburg will be private and at the convenience of the family.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Shriners Hospital for Children , 3551 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19140, or to Trindle Spring Lutheran Church , 14 State Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050.
