June Irene (Frey) Yaple

June Irene (Frey) Yaple, age 103, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Shiremanstown, passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2021. June was born on Thursday, June 20, 1918, in Shiremanstown to the late Harry Dill Frey and Ruth Naomi (Stone) Frey. June was the widow of James S. Yaple, whom she married on June 24, 1939, and who died on August 22, 1991. In addition to her parents and husband, June is preceded in death by her two sisters: Elnora “Johnny” Hake and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Kauffman.
June’s survivors include her son, James “Jim” S. Yaple, Jr. and wife, Stephanie, of Mechanicsburg; her two siblings: Henrietta Moser of Mechanicsburg and J. Harry Frey and wife, Terri, of Mechanicsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
June graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as a part of the class of 1936 and from Harrisburg School of Beauty. She opened her own beauty shop in Shiremanstown in the early 1940s. Then, in 1948, June closed her shop and started the West Shore Home Distributor. In 1950, her husband, James, joined the business as a partner and the name changed to Westy’s. She dedicated herself to the business and kept going 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Her son, Jim, joined the business as a partner in 1960 and June continued to work at the business for nearly 70 years, up until she was 101 years old. She was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Shiremanstown.
All are welcome to join June’s family at her gathering of family & friends on Saturday, December 11, 2021, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with The Reverend Sarah M. Keilholtz and The Reverend Elizabeth Eckman officiating. Burial will follow the service in St. John’s Cemetery in Mechanicsburg. Honored to be pallbearers are George Bradley, Steve Hulbert, Gary Larson, Alex Nelson, George Funk, and Mark Judy.
