Karin Janet (Schott) Shumaker

In Constant Motion -

Karin Janet (Schott) Shumaker, age 84, of Marysville , died peacefully and surrounded by her loving family on Friday, May 30, 2014 at Messiah Lifeways at Messiah Village in Mechanicsburg.  Karin was born on Tuesday, April 15, 1930 in Harrisburg, PA to the late Theodore Schott and Florence (Smith) Schott.  In addition to her parents, Karin is preceded in death by her brother, Fred Schott, and her two sisters, Florence Enders and Kitten Watkins.

Karin’s survivors include her loving husband of 64 years, James “Jim” Edward Shumaker, Jr.; her three children: Ted Shumaker and his wife Maureen of Dillsburg, Don Shumaker and his fiancé Penny Freeman of Louisiana, Linda Shumaker of Harrisburg; her three grandchildren: Spenser, Devon, and Emma; and several nieces and nephews.

Karin graduated from John Harris High School as part of the class of 1948.  She was an amazing baker who was known to bake 12 apple pies in a single day and who never had a store bought pie in her home.  If Karin canned 400 quarts in a year it was considered a good year.  Her flower garden was a beauty to behold.  Being in constant motion, she would sew and crochet all the time.  To say that Karin was an excellent homemaker is an understatement.  She truly loved Wildwood, NJ and her many beagles, all of whom were named “Nicky Gingerbell”.  An amazing mother and person, Karin will be deeply missed.

All are welcome to join Karin’s family at her Gathering of Family and Friends on Thursday, June 5, 2014, from 2:15 p.m. until time of service at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Messiah Lifeways at Messiah Village , 100 Mount Allen Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Debby Bentch and Pastor Paul Kauffman officiating.  Karin’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship immediately following the service.  Burial in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisburg was private.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania , 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

Karin’s family has entrusted her care to Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421.  Read Karin’s full obituary, view her memorial video and portrait, and sign her official guest book at www.Myers-Buhrig.com .
